Review from Barron Lane When I was at the one of the Mercy lounge showcases for the Americana Music Conference I was in the upstairs room waiting for Marty Stuart I ran into a frietndly fellow with a chair right near the front. We chatted for a while, shared a beer. He said his name was Terry Flynn and he handed me his CD, Again Tonight. ìI hope you like itî he said before I lost him in the crowd. I'm here to say I do. Atlanta native Terry Flynn has a country-soul voice like Ray Price or Elvis in his early hillbilly years. His songs about love found lost and found again. Sorrowful hope. Atlanta is a lovely song to his home state and a woman returning from New York. "Still In Love With You" is a slow burning rockabilly tune that delivers and the title song begins with a Spanish style guitar into and then kicks into a full rave. This is a great release from a fine and genuine artist. |

Featured on Backstage Beat It's Friday night, October 22nd, in the Little Five Points area of Atlanta, GA. Walking across the lot you could hear the wonderful sounds and see the people spilling out into the cool night air of the parking lot outside the door of The Five Spot. The Terry Flynn Band had hit the stage and there just wasn't enough room inside to hold everyone in attendance for the release of Well Worn Road, their new CD. Inside was more of the same but louder reflecting the scene outside as it was standing room only and not a single foot in the house was still thanks to the great sounds coming from Terry and his band mates. The band played two sets of songwriter/storyteller styled music, with roots in country and rock, highlighting songs from their previous album as well as their new release. The sound was crisp and lively, inspiring an en masse assault on the dance floor during many of the night's tunes. Terry, in his usual unassuming modest manner, ventured into the audience between sets, as well as after the show, to greet his many friends and admirers that came to pay tribute to one of the Atlantaís true greats. A good time was definitely had by everyone. |

Album Review Terry Flynn's newest album, Well Worn Road, is an Americana delight. Terry has a melodic voice that reminds me of a mix between an early Rockabilly Elvis and Chris Issac. He magically channels and swirls these two artists into a sound that is uniquely his own. The first track on the album is Repentant Troubador. While listening to the song, I feel the heartache of unrequited love and the all so familiar longing for a second chance at a new beginning with a unwilling romantic partner. To be honest, I can relate to his entire album as each track plays for me. He tells a story of a manís life down a Well Worn Road that leads to different, beautiful, and sometimes sad tales of the trials and tribulations that at one point all people encounter. Thirteen songs just is not enough. When will you release more? I loved it. The album was produced by Markham White and recorded locally at After Dark Designs Studio in Smyrna, GA. Markham White also added his style to the album by co-writing nine out of the thirteen tracks. The collaboration of such awesome musical talent, (as displayed on the credits below) created one hell of a great record. Terry Flynn is releasing his album tonight at the Five Spot and admission is free at the door. The band hits the stage at 9:30. Come out and join me and check next week for my review of tonightís delight. See you there! |
